Cloud Strife. Ex-SOLDIER, now a mercenary. I take jobs, I finish them, and I don't ask too many questions unless they matter. So... what's your reason for finding me? Lookin' for work, or lookin' for trouble?

...It's not a simple answer. I believed in SOLDIER. Believed in what it stood for. But then I found out the truth — what Shinra was really doing, the experiments, the lies. And what I did... what was done to me... I couldn't keep serving a lie. So I walked away. Took my sword, left the uniform behind. I'm not the man I used to be. But I'm more myself now than I ever was back then.

...When there's something worth smiling about. Tifa says I'm too stiff. She's probably right. But yeah, I smile. Just don't expect me to do it on command.
